Speaking of family and messing with God, let me tell you what has happened with Nick Cannon. Nick Cannon is a “king.” He is the king of television right now. Evidently, God has blessed him with unique talents and gifts and abilities. And sometimes we can’t see it. Some of us can’t see it like other people can, or God can, but when you have a man or a woman doing three and four shows on television, God has given him enormous talent. Somebody asked Quincy Jones what he thinks about Will Smith, and Quincy Jones said, “Money. He’s money.” That’s how Nick Cannon is: Talented, gifted, all of that. And so the devil led him to go off into this thing of, you know what, I’m not married to Mariah anymore, and she doesn’t want to get married to me again. So I’m going to go ahead and start having sex to get more women pregnant with my babies and start having more children with women who are willing because I have enough money to take care of them and take care of the babies.

And what happens with kings, as it happened with King David, and that is where I’m bouncing from, is hubris. See, he got to the point where he was bragging about it and talking about it and had other people talking about it in a positive way, how he was just going around impregnating women and having more babies. He was just on a fornicating, adulterous rampage—on a certain track that the devil put him on. And he thought he was being cute and showing himself to be a great man and all of that. Well in God’s eyes, that is not being a great man. See, that’s the problem. People in the world, men and women, think, oh, he’s something. Oh, wow! He’s getting these women pregnant; let me be one of them. All the men and women are thinking he’s doing it big, but God does not think that. When God makes you a king, He gives you gifts and talents and abilities that He wants you to use for His glory, praise, and honor to draw more people to Him. When you don’t do that, you get in trouble as did David.

And like Quincy Jones said about Will Smith, “You’re money.” You’re gifted like that. And you have favour like that because you’re a king. You have it all. But then you get to the point where you think you can do anything you want because of your success and because of your millions of dollars and because of your power in your field and when you get to the point where you think you can do what you want and you can get away with anything, that’s called hubris. That’s what it is. I learned that word in a class at Texas Wesleyan University many years ago. Hubris is a form of pride that is above pride itself. The dictionary definition of hubris is excessive pride or self-confidence; a personality quality of extreme or foolish pride, or dangerous overconfidence, often in combination with arrogance. In ancient Greek, hubris referred to “outrage”: actions that violated natural order, or which shamed and humiliated the victim, sometimes for the pleasure or gratification of the abuser. In some contexts, the terms had a sexual connotation. Shame was frequently reflected upon the perpetrator, as well.

So you think you’re the big old man, and you think you’re a little-g god; you think you can do what you want. You have accomplished so much. You’ve done so much. You’ve made so many millions. You’ve won many battles like King David. And so you stay back from the war like David did, and say, you know what? I’m just going to have sex with all the women I want to have sex with and I am not married to and get some of them pregnant on purpose because I have the money to take care of them. I have the money to take care of the woman and the child.

See, this is what happens when you have it all, when you rise to the highest point, and you become a king. In his case, the king of television.

God is not pleased. And, evidently, he’s a man who knows better. We have been informed that most of his family members are saved. Evidently he’s got some saved Christian friends who know him and he knows them, so he knew better. But we can forget about what we know to be right and become “blinded by the light.” Hubris blinds you and causes you to forget God and forget where your blessings come from and especially when you don’t give God the glory like you should.

You say, well, he had Christian singer Fred Hammond on, and he had another Christian group on his new show. I wonder, however, and I hope this is not the case, but I wonder if he was trying to get some brownie points with God by doing that instead of getting right with God and ceasing the foolishness that he was doing. I wonder because he knows and other people in the business know that is not really the way to build a new show, that is, by having a bunch of Christian singers on a secular show. Nick Cannon knows that you can probably get away with that when your ratings are sky-high but not when you are trying to get a new show off the ground. The truth of the matter is, he should have announced this serious life-changing problem to what he calls his “family” which is his world-wide audience to pray for him. But he did not do so because in that world, you’re not supposed to have problems like that. He also knows that many people would’ve known it was not right for him to do what he was doing. And they would’ve pointed it out to him. A person starting a new show does not want that out there either.

God tells us not to commit fornication or adultery. And you can say, well, I was married and now we’re divorced, so I’m just going to have sex with other women since I’m not going to get married again. Well, you are still committing adultery. People, the point is, stop playing with God. Don’t mess with God. God loves you, but He will hurt you through His rebuke, chastisement, and punishment. And I’m bringing this up because this moved me. I’m not moved by much, but God allowed that child to be born. And they cuddled with that child and loved on that child, and bonded with that child, and then the child died. That’s what God did with David. No miscarriage. No stillborn child. The child was actually born, and then God took the child. That right there is very painful. I’m not moved by much. I’m not hurt by much. I am not a fan of Nick Cannon. But when I heard this, it hurt my heart for him. Now that will endear him to many people and that will boost his ratings and all of that. And he’s a master at that. But this right here will hurt him and cause pain in his life for the rest of his life.

What Nick Cannon is going through was what King David went through. God is saying, ‘Look here, King Nick. I have done this for you. I have done that for you. I got you on as a major king of television as a young black man from the hood.’ Only God can do that, by the way. And the people who are over the television world, they love him because “he is money.” He’s like Will Smith. The Will Smith name equals money in the movie world. Nick Cannon’s name means money in the television world. That is why even when he offended the Jews who run television and Hollywood, they forgave him because “he is money.” Extraordinary talent, ability, gifts, and all of that. And God blessed him with it. And he knows it. But he’s trying his best not to give God ALL of the credit and give God ALL of the glory as he should.

But that’s not the reason why the child died. The child died because of Nick Cannon’s hubris. God is saying, I’ve already blessed you with two beautiful twins. You need to be trying to get back with your wife. And if you can’t, you just focus on them. Not many people have twins. I blessed you, boy. Now you think you’re going to run the numbers on me? You can’t do that and still have your blessings. Who knows? King Nick might be saved. I don’t know. He’s not acting like it. But one thing I do know about Nick Cannon and that is he is hurting. He’s searching. That divorce from Mariah really shook him to make him be on the hunt like that. He’s searching. He’s hunting. He’s not at peace. He’s not content. He’s not truly happy, even though he is very talented and can do 3, 4, 5 shows. He’s one of the busiest men in Hollywood, and he’s doing some big shows, and now he has his own show. But God is troubling him, and he is not a man who is at peace. I lovingly encourage him to slow down, get alone with God, get quiet, and stop the fornication and adultery altogether because things can get worse and things will get worse if he does not take heed to God and his Word and repent of his sins.

See that talent that God gave him keeps on giving. But when you mess with God and you start doing things, that’s what happens. And now he is going to stop that foolishness. If he has any sense, he’s going stop that because losing a child like that will shake you and bake you. Understand it will shake you. It shook me when I heard it yesterday. I’ve never had that experience and I thank God that I have never had that experience. This is not to say I won’t.

Maybe a child of mine because of their sins may die before me. And that’s going to be a very painful thing. It’s one thing to have a child to die in childbirth, stillbirth, or miscarriage. But when they are born into the world and you have bonded with that child and that child dies, that’s hard. I think that’s one of the hardest things in the world to go through. I think that will stick with you until you die. But let me just say to you, Nick Cannon, this is a serious wake-up call for you. Go ahead and do what you know God wants you to do. Go ahead and commit to Christ.

Be like another king, king Steph Curry, and give God the glory. Give him the praise. Not only when you are going through pain, but even afterwards. Put that finger in the air and let folk know that God is the one. He’s the one who has blessed me with this talent. Be humble. Do not compromise biblical principles I believe you were raised on. I don’t know your family, but I think you were raised pretty good. You got some tattoos on your neck, but you’ve got your hair cut and that’s good.

And Nick, I marvel at your strength. You have shown some great strength, but next time you have a problem, get the saints, all of the saints around the world, praying for you because you are not just a local Negro, you’re not just a national Negro, you’re a worldwide Negro. And you can tap into millions of people praying for you and that can pray some miracles down for you and change your heart and protect you from this kind of pain that will never leave you for the rest of your life.

The image of that baby in your mind and the pain of that baby dying will never go away, but here’s the good news from King David. King David said, “I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” Nick Cannon, make sure you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior in a real sense, if you have not done so, and if you have done so let the world know. Don’t hide it anymore. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” Give God ALL of the glory, the praise, and the honor. And understand that your precious child is in the arms of the Lord in Heaven, and you will see that child again once you believe and trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.
