The country of Barbados ushered in a new era by removing the Queen as head of state after 55 years and becoming the world’s new republic. As a result, the Caribbean island swore in its first president, Dame Sandra Mason, during a ceremony in the capital city of Bridgetown, which just happens to be the hometown of its resident superstar, Rihanna. In fact, the pop star-turned-billionaire entrepreneur was among the many dignitaries, including the Prince of Wales, on hand to attend Tuesday’s ceremony.
