Gun Used to Kill Hattiesburg Police Officers Found

The gun used to fatally shoot two Hattiesburg police officers has been found.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain says landscapers Friday found the .40-caliber pistol that police believe Marvin Banks used to shoot officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate. Police say a ballistic test confirms it’s the gun.

Banks is jailed without bond on two capital murder charges.

The MBI on Friday also charged 21-year-old Douglas McPhail and 19-year-old Anquanette Alexander with obstruction of justice for actions investigators say they took after the shootings to help people involved. Both are held in Forrest County Jail awaiting court appearances. It’s unknown if either has an attorney.

Seven arrests have been made in the shootings.

Bond was set at $75,000 Friday for Abram “Pete” Franklin, arrested Wednesday for obstruction of justice.
