Iowa City police have received numerous calls and complaints about loud church services at the New Creations International Church, 2929 Court St., during the month of June.

On Sunday police were called at least twice for loud music complaints at the church. Online police records show calls on each of the last three Sundays. Additionally records show another person stopped by to file a report with police on Monday.

“We want to work with the community,” said pastor Anthony Smith. “We want to be an asset, not a liability.”

The church is the primary home to a multicultural service led by Smith during the late-morning hours. Smith said the space is used by separate ministries in the morning and evening, which include services in foreign languages, like French and Spanish.

“We are a church, we actively worship God and we’re not ashamed of that,” Smith said.
