They haven’t been seen together since they were taken off the air last Monday when they were suspended ‘indefinitely,’ one week after news of their affair broke.

Now, DailyMail.com can reveal, sources close to GMA co-hosts T.J. Holmes, 45, and Amy Robach, 49, are casting doubt on whether the relationship can weather this storm.

According to one insider, ‘They wouldn’t dare be caught together now, not while ABC is making a decision.

‘Their marriages are over, but they have children to think about and they don’t want to jeopardize their futures with the network any more than they already have.’

At first the couple seemed determined to brazen it out – with Holmes sparking disbelief when he appeared alongside Robach and made light of the scandal two days after their relationship became public.

Speaking at the end of that first week he joked: ‘You know it’s too bad it’s Friday, it’s been a great week’ – one, he said, he wished would just ‘keep on going.’

Robach hit back: ‘Speak for yourself.’

Their next move was to claim that they were, ‘openly dating’ and speak about, ‘growing their relationship.’

But since then, there has been little evidence of any united front from the couple who, instead, increasingly seem to be facing down the firestorm from their separate foxholes.

Speaking to DailyMail.com last week, a weary-looking Robach said: ‘It’s sort of over now,’ as she walked her golden doodle, Brody.

Holmes has made no public comment.

 

It was all very different just two weeks ago when they were sneaking around town, meeting up for flirty drinks in midtown bars, holding hands in taxis and taking off for a weekend upstate.

Then, they were rarely out of each other’s company. Now, they are never in it.

And the truth is that when Holmes was first approached for comment by DailyMail.com, his knee-jerk reaction was a career saving attempt to ‘adamantly deny’ the relationship existed at all.

ABC News President Kim Godwin started this week by issuing a memo to all staff in an apparent attempt to tamp down office speculation and gossip over what she referred to euphemistically as the ‘on-going matter involving GMA 3 anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach.’

She wrote: ‘I understand that the continuing coverage can be distracting from the incredibly important work our team does here at ABC News.’

She informed staff, ‘Amy and T.J. will remain off-air pending the completion of an internal review, and there will be a rotation of anchors at GMA3 for the time being.’

And while Godwin seems at pains to project an image of ‘business as usual,’ insiders say that Holmes and Robach are both keenly invested in salvaging their own careers.

Both were viewed as rising stars within the ABC firmament.

Holmes joined the network in September 2014 and had become permanent anchor on World New Now within three months as well as a correspondent for GMA.

Robach joined the network two years earlier joining GMA as a correspondent before becoming the show’s news anchor in 2014.

Both Holmes and Robach were part of the GMA team when the show won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Morning Program in 2015.

Three years later Robach was named co-host of 20/20 alongside David Muir and two years later, in 2020, she and Holmes were installed as co-anchors of GMA3: What You Need to Know, where they traded on their easy chemistry and a close friendship of which they made no secret.

Just last year, Robach appeared on the show with her now estranged husband, actor Andrew Shue, 55, to promote a children’s book the couple had co-authored about blending their families.

Both Shue and Robach were married before, with Robach having two daughters from her first marriage and Shue three sons from his earlier union.

In a love-in that now makes for excruciating viewing, Holmes interviewed the pair about their love story.

He referred to Shue as one of his ‘dearest friends’ and ‘my man’ several times and boasted that he had ‘promised to deliver’ a special guest.
