The prominent pastor of a well-known Bristol, Virginia, church has passed away.
The pastor of Lee Street Baptist Church, Dr. W.A. Johnson, passed away Thursday, according to Bristol Area Ministerial Alliance President Rev. Jackie Nophlin.
Johnson became pastor of the church in 1961, according to the church’s website.
Johnson was born in York County, Virginia, and grew up in the Hampton area.
Johnson previously told News 5 that he was part of civil rights rallies with the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
He was 90 years old.
