Rhode Island couple were found shot to death in their home last week as their children slept, police say.

Eric Huard, 51, and Courtney Huard, 42, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, were pronounced dead at the scene when police responded to a report of two adults with gunshot wounds at approximately 6.40 a.m. on June 22.

Their three children, Grant, Blake and Sydney, were found unharmed at the couple’s home on Birchwood Drive.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and have also said ‘this was not a random act of violence,’ according to a statement released by Cumberland Police Chief Matthew Benson.

‘I would like to reiterate my deepest condolences and sympathies to the Huard family, including any friends and family and especially the three children left during this most difficult time,’ Benson added.

The Cumberland Police Department are still investigating the incident with the help of Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office and Rhode Island State Police.

According to their obituaries, Eric was a lineman for the national grid, while his wife Courtney owned a diet and nutrition practice. Both have been described as loving and invested parents, often seen on the sidelines of their children’s sporting events.
