A 17-year-old male was found apparently beaten to death Thursday night near the basketball courts of the I Promise School on West Market Street in Akron.
The teen was identified as Ethan Liming by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Liming was found at about 10:45 p.m. in a parking lot near the basketball court at the school at 400 W. Market St., the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday morning.
Akron police said Liming was with friends who pulled into the school parking lot. The group then got into a fight with at least three other males who were on the property playing basketball, police said.
Liming was knocked unconscious and “brutally assaulted,” police said. The people who had been with the teen rushed home and called 911, police said. Police and medics who arrived found Liming unresponsive with what was described as severe injuries.
911 caller says ‘our friend just got knocked out’
Akron police released a recording of a 911 call in which a young male initially gives the wrong name for the location of the incident, then quickly corrects himself.
“We’re at the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio,” he said. “Our friend just got knocked out. We don’t know what to do.”
