Tuesday marks 20 years since 7-year-old Alexis Patterson disappeared in 2002.
She went missing near the corner of North 49th Street and West Garfield Avenue, right outside of Hi-Mount Community School.
Alexis was reportedly last seen by her stepfather, LaRon Bourgeois.
He told police he walked her to school on May 3, 2002.
Alexis’ mother, Ayanna Patterson, held an event Tuesday to remember her daughter.
“I’m going to continue to keep her memory going,” she said. “Alexis was a bubbly child, very bubbly. She was very happy. She loved to have fun.”
She wants to continue to keep the story in the spotlight until she has answers.
Alexis never made it to class and has not been seen since.
Bourgeois died last year of a suspected drug overdose.
Her mother said she knows Alexis is still alive.
