In protest of the streaming service Spotify for airing a podcast that featured a figure spreading misinformation about the coronavirus, Joni Mitchell is joining Neil Young and is pulling all her music from Spotify.
“Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives,” Mitchell said Friday in a message posted on her website. “I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.”
Spotify, according to its policies, has removed more than 20,000 podcasts related to the COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
Is it all about money?
However, the main person in the controversy, Joe Rogan, whose podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience,” has not been removed. Rogan is one of the streaming service’s biggest stars, with a contract that could earn him more than $100 million.
Rogan interviewed on one of his most recent podcasts Dr. Robert Malone, an infectious disease specialist who has been banned from Twitter for spreading COVID misinformation.
