Cambridge University experts trialled using pantyhose, tape and rubber bands on top of widely available surgical and KN95 coverings. They found all hacks improved how well masks fit and enhanced the protection they provided. However, the most effective methods – pantyhose wrapped around the head on top of a mask and tape sticking the mask to the face – were ‘uncomfortable and unlikely to be tolerated for extended periods of time’, the researchers said.
