The family of a Cleveland girl who was tortured, raped, and murdered by a registered sex offender on her way to school five years ago has reportedly received a $1 million legal settlement after filing a lawsuit against the school and city. On Thursday, local outlet Fox 8 reported that their investigation team had obtained records filed in Cuyahoga County Probate Court asking a judge to approve a $1 million settlement in the wrongful death suit, filed after the murder of 14-year-old Alianna DeFreeze (right). ‘Despite the incredible odds faced by Plaintiffs’ counsel, they were able to convince the settling Defendants (who still assert that they have no legal responsibility for the death of Alianna) to resolve this matter for a total of $1million,’ Attorney Allen Boseman reportedly wrote in the Thursday filing. ‘This is a tremendous settlement based upon the facts and the current state of the law in the state of Ohio.’ The parents of Alianna, Donnesha Cooper and Damon DeFreeze (left), filed the wrongful death suit back in 2019, alleging that the then-14-year-old’s school failed to notify the couple of her absence from class in January 2017, waiting more than 10 hours to tell them she had gone missing.
