
An armed intruder has been arrested in the grounds of Windsor Castle today, where the Queen is celebrating Christmas.
A 19-year-old man from from Southampton was allegedly carrying an offensive weapon and is now being held in police custody after triggering an alarm at around 8.30am this morning.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said the suspect did not manage to enter any buildings during the intrusion. They added that the Royal Family are aware of the intrusion.
The Queen is currently celebrating Christmas at Windsor, along with her son Charles and his wife Camilla. They have also been joined by Edward and his wife Sophie and their children, Louise and James.
Her Majesty missed a service this morning as she remained indoors while other senior royals arrived at St George’s Chapel.
Superintendent Rebecca Mears said in a statement: ‘An investigation is ongoing following this incident and we are working with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police.
