Health authorities around Europe and the Pacific Rim said dozens of cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus were identified in their countries and most carriers had entered before it was identified last week.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control said Tuesday that 44 cases of the new strain had been reported in the region. The ECDC, which said its figure was based on information from public sources, said also a number of probable cases were being investigated.
