Whyte House Family Spoken Novels Holiday Edition #28: Shaking The Gates of Hell Chapter 2

Welcome to the Whyte House Family Spoken Novels podcast: Holiday Edition episode #28. Today we are reading chapter 2 of the novel “Shaking The Gates of Hell” by Daniel Whyte III with Meriqua Whyte.

Unbeknownst to Pastor Johnson and Pastor Grant, a group of demons was hovering in the air above Pastor Grant’s house listening intently to their conversation. That group was given one of the most important jobs in Satan’s kingdom.
“Do you see Pastor Grant?” the devil said. “He’s going to educate himself on spiritual warfare and on how to counteract what we are doing. Do whatever it takes to keep him and his church family ignorant of our devices. You can begin by interrupting any and every phone call from Pastor Johnson to Pastor Grant or vice-versa. I hate to say this, boys, but Pastor Johnson is an old veteran; he’s been doing battle with us for years now; he’s very familiar with our tricks. I wish I could obliterate what their Bible tells them about resisting me and holding on to their faith, but, unfortunately, I cannot do that. However, we can weaken their faith and discourage them. We can confuse Pastor Grant’s understanding as well as the understanding of the members of his church. Anyway, as I was saying, Pastor Johnson is the one who will enlighten him so we have to stop any communication between them.”
“Yes, Master. It shouldn’t be too hard.”
“Any suggestions as to how we can upset this church family?” Satan asked.
A crooked hand went up. “Master, we ought to travel in bigger groups. These Christians are getting wiser and are becoming more aware of our strategies.”
“Will do. Any more suggestions?”
“We ought to attack the children. We get the children, we get the parents.”
“You’re not so dumb after all. I like that suggestion. Any more?”
“Master, I think we ought to cause division between husbands and wives.”
“That’s right,” Satan said. “By the way, I’m already working on Pastor Grant. He is one of those preachers who is really sold out for my enemy, Jesus Christ. His Achilles’ heel, his only weakness, is shapely women. So, you demons, send a parade of the most shapely women to the church. Also, his wife is not as strong as he is in the faith. Plant more doubts in her mind; don’t let up. This is the only way we can get to him. Do so. Remember, our motto? Never give up! Never give up! Never give up!”
Due to sudden static over the telephone line the pastors ended their conversation. Pastor Johnson had no doubt it was an act of the devil or one of his demons because he was about to enlighten Pastor Grant on the increased workings of Satan during this time of the year. I’ll just swing by his office on Tuesday, Pastor Johnson thought.
Pastor Johnson made it to Pastor Grant’s office but not without incident. “I just had a complete tune-up on my car two weeks ago, so it is strange for it to break down like that,” he told Pastor Grant who picked him up from the car shop. “I tell you, the devil is working.”
“Wait a minute now. We can’t give the devil credit for everything that does not go smoothly,” Pastor Grant said.
“I have no doubt this is of the devil. He heard us talking yesterday about how he increases his activities especially during this time of the year. Why would the phone suddenly develop static? To stop our conversation about him. Why would my great running car suddenly break down? To stop me from visiting with you to continue our conversation,” Pastor Johnson said confidently.
Pastor Grant was convinced there was a devil that was out to get all serious minded Christians. “But sometimes we credit him too much when we ought to be blamed for our own wrongdoings,” he said.
The men settled down in Pastor Grant’s office. He kicked off the conversation by asking, “Yesterday, you said October was a month that the devil thinks belongs to him. What do you mean by that?”
Pastor Johnson chuckled. “I’ve been walking with the Lord for forty-five years now, and I am convinced of some things. One thing is, the devil believes the month of October is his month. The fall season begins in September and a kind of dreariness sets in. The weather gets cooler and the sun doesn’t shine as much or as brightly. The days are shorter, and a spiritual darkness spreads throughout the atmosphere. Remember the Bible says the devil is the prince of the power of the air. Only people in tune with God know that this darkness comes from him.”
“I have noticed that as well,” Pastor Grant agreed.
“These changes, which you can call negative, affect many people. Some tend to have a sad or depressed attitude around this time of year. Call it what you want,” Pastor Johnson said calmly, “but I believe satanic spirit beings increase their activities around this time of the year. Those who have spiritual discernment will sense the spiritual darkness in the atmosphere.”
“You know, I sensed that same thing, and I have even noticed a somberness among my people, but I have been dismissing it as them having a bad day or just seasonal changes. You know: if it is sunshiny outside then one will have a sunny disposition. On the contrary, if it is dark and cold outside, one will have a dark and cold disposition.”
“Oh, you’re not the only one to think that. Many pastors have such a shallow relationship with God, they do not notice anything and they believe the somberness is personal or because they did not preach an uplifting message or something like that.” Pastor Johnson waited for Pastor Grant to answer the incoming phone call before continuing. “Paul tells us we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
“Paul got that right,” Pastor Grant agreed. “I have no explanation for some of the things that have happened in my life or some of the church members’ lives especially this past week, except for it being the work of the devil.”
“You said it seemed like every family was hit with something this past week?”
Pastor Grant nodded.
“Tell me this: Do you have anything, an event or some activity planned that could upset Satan’s kingdom?”
Pastor Grant thought for a minute. “I know I have stepped up my personal prayer time and I have encouraged my family and church family to do the same. We are getting ready to start everyday soul-winning beginning this Thursday. And I am seriously thinking of putting on a Hell House project on Halloween night presenting the biblical depiction of the real Hell, and, of course, presenting the plan of salvation giving folks a chance to get saved. I am thinking of calling it Holyween.”
“Are you up for the battle?” Pastor Johnson asked.
“Yes. You’ll definitely be fighting against Satan’s kingdom. In other words, you will be inviting trouble from Satan. He is not going to sit quietly by and not wage war against you and anything you’re involved in that is a threat to him.”
“So that’s why my church family was hit so much this past week,” Pastor Grant said. “I thought that was it, but I guess I needed you or someone to confirm it for me.”
“Yes, and he’s going to keep striking at you — directly and indirectly.”

Now, dear listener, please know that God—the divine Author of all things—wants to write a great story with your life as well. But first you must give Him the pen by trusting Him with the life He gave you and surrendering your heart to Jesus Christ as Savior. Here is how:

1. Accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20: “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 reads: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

2. Accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

3. Accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

4. Accept the fact that you cannot do anything to save yourself! The Bible states in Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

5. Accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

6. With these facts in mind, please repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
