An Indiana state representative had his official account suspended by Twitter for referring to the transgender Assistant Health Secretary as ‘a man.’
Jim Banks’ work account was suspended on Saturday after he wrote: ‘The title of first female four-star officer gets taken by a man,’
He did so after Assistant Health Secretary Dr Rachel Levine was promoted to the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps as she was confirmed as Joe Biden’s Assistant Health Secretary on October 19.
She is the first trans four-star officer in the US uniformed services, but other women have achieved the same rank before her, contrary to Banks’ claims.
Banks had responded to the U.S. surgeon general congratulating Levine on her promotion in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps by writing: ‘The title of first female four-star officer gets taken by a man.’
The post was removed with a reference to Twitter rules that include a ban on ‘targeted misgendering’ of transgender people.
Misgendering refers to using the gender identity a transgender person previously went by.
Banks´ official Twitter account remained online Sunday but he wasn´t allowed to add new posts.
