Police saw it as an antisemitic incident.

A former Israeli soldier, now a Berlin resident, was assaulted outside the Noeldnerplatz commuter train station in an eastern district of Berlin. He was wearing a pullover with the emblem of the Israel Defense Forces. The assailant pretending to be interested in his faith addressed him about his faith. When the soldier turned to respond, the assailant sprayed an irritant gas in his face and knocked him to the ground and then took off running.

The man alerted police. The incident is still under investigation.
