WATCH: Pregnant “The Real” host Jeannie Mai admits she didn’t think she’d ever become a mom because the trauma of her own childhood abuse made her ‘scared’ that she won’t be able to ‘keep a kid safe’

The Real presenter and her husband, rapper Jeezy, are expecting a baby after doing IVF. She and her ex-husband Freddy Harteis, whom she was married to from 2007 to 2018, never had any kids, and Jeannie was adamant about not wanting any. She says now it was because her childhood trauma burdened her with a fear that something bad is going to happen. Jeannie was sexually abused by a family member seven or eight years older than her starting from the time she was nine. Her mother didn’t believe her when she asked for help, so Jeannie ran away. She said this left her scared about whether she could protect a child, but she now knows she was ‘meant to be a mom.’
