This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Daily Reading of the Chronological Bible Episode #320, where I read the Holy Bible in the King James Version each day in chronological order. This unique viewpoint allows you to read the whole Bible as a single story and to see the unfolding of God’s plan in history. Today we are reading 1 Samuel 27:1-7 and 1 Chronicles 12:1-7.
1 Samuel 27:1-7
1 And Da’-vid said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Phil’-is-tines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 And Da’-vid arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto A’-chish, the son of Ma’-och, king of Gath.
3 And Da’-vid dwelt with A’-chish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even Da’-vid with his two wives, A’-hi-no-am the Jez’-re-el-i-tess, and A’-bi-gail the Car-mel’-i-tess, Na’-bal’s wife.
4 And it was told Saul that Da’-vid was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.
5 And Da’-vid said unto A’-chish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
6 Then A’-chish gave him Zik’-lag that day: wherefore Zik’-lag pertaineth unto the kings of Ju’-dah unto this day.
7 And the time that Da’-vid dwelt in the country of the Phil’-is-tines was a full year and four months.
1 Chronicles 12:1-7
1 Now these are they that came to Da’-vid to Zik’-lag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war.
2 They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul’s brethren of Ben’-ja-min.
3 The chief was A-hi-e’-zer, then Jo’-ash, the sons of Shem’-a-ah the Gib’-e-a-thite ; and Je’-zi-el, and Pe’-let, the sons of Az-ma’-veth; and Be-ra’-chah, and Je’-hu the An’-to-thite.
4 And Is-mai’-ah the Gib’-eon-ite, a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty; and Ja-ha’-zi-el, and Jo-ha’-nan, and Jos’-a-bad the Ge-de’-ra-thite,
5 E-lu’-zai, and Jer’-i-moth, and Be-a-li’-ah, and Shem-ari’-ah, and Sheph-a-ti’-ah the Ha-ru’-phite,
6 El-ka’-nah, and Je-si-ah, and Az’-a-reel, and Jo-e’-zer, and Ja-shob’-e-am, the Kor’-hites,
7 And Jo-e’-lah, and Zeb-a-di’-ah, the sons of Je-ro’-ham of Ge’-dor.
When I was a teenager I wanted to get wisdom and knowledge, so I set out to read the big family Bible that many families had in those days. But I couldn’t get past Genesis 2 before I got bored with reading the Bible. I found out later in life that you have to believe on Christ and get saved before you can understand the Bible. So here is how I became a Christian and how you can too:
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.
If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
