All signs point to a US-Iranian prisoner swap on the horizon, according to Steven Ganot, writing for the online news outlet The Medialine https://themedialine.org.
Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Tuesday that talks are underway for an exchange of prisoners.
This, Rabiei said, reflected a change from US policy under the Trump administration, which “refused to sit at the negotiating table” when Tehran offered to open talks on the issue.
That refusal didn’t stop a December 2019 deal, facilitated by the Swiss government, which saw the trade of an Iranian stem cell scientist who had been arrested for violating US sanctions, for an American student whom Iran had arrested on espionage charges.
