FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) – The undergraduate school of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has been renamed – it’s now Texas Baptist College rather than Scarborough College – the seminary announced today (June 9).
“Texas Baptist College is going to be a tremendous educational enterprise that will enrich its students’ lives and impact our world through their service,” Southwestern President Adam W. Greenway said. “I believe few changes we have implemented in recent years at Southwestern Seminary have as far-reaching potential as the new name, vision and leadership for our college.”
In addition to the new name, which was approved by the seminary’s trustees in their spring meeting as part of other bylaw changes, Texas Baptist College also has a new vision statement and three core distinctives: “Christ-centered,” “Scripture-driven” and “student-focused.” These elements all coincide with the addition of Benjamin M. Skaug to the college faculty as dean, who began his duties Jan. 1.
Citing the new vision statement, Skaug said, “Texas Baptist College exists to glorify God by providing trustworthy Christian higher education for more faithful Kingdom service.”
