Zookeeper Mauled to Death by Tiger in Northern Ukraine

A zoo keeper has been attacked and killed by a tiger in northern Ukraine.

The animal bit the 47-year-old keeper in the neck during feeding in a zoo in the city of Mena, Ukrainian media reported on Friday.

According to the zoo director, the keeper had not observed safety regulations and had gone into the cage alone.

A police report said he had worked at the zoo since 2009.

The zoo in the town about 150 kilometres northeast of the capital Kiev keeps tigers as well as lions, pumas, leopards and bears.
