This is Daniel Whyte III with the Second Coming Watch Update. This is update #952. Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to The Guardian, Israeli airstrikes on east Syria killed 57 regime forces and allied Iran-backed fighters in the deadliest such strikes since the start of the conflict. The overnight raids against arms depots and military positions killed at least 14 Syrian regime forces, 16 Iraqi militia fighters and 11 Afghan members of the pro-Iran Fatimid [FUH-TEE-MUHD] Brigade. The nationality of the remaining 16 people who lost their lives in the 18 strikes was not immediately clear. Ra-mi Ab-dul Rah-man, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said, “This is the largest death toll from Israeli raids in Syria.” The official Syrian news agency Sana said “the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial assault on the town of Deir Ezzor [DEHR EZ-ZOR] and the Al-bu Ka-mal region”, adding that “the results of the aggression are currently being verified”. An Israeli army spokesperson declined to comment.
Second, today, under the Sign category of FAMINES — According to BBC News, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has warned that new swarms of locusts in southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya are spreading further in the eastern Africa region. In its latest update posted on Monday, the Food and Agriculture Organization said the immature swarms have been migrating from the previous locust breeding grounds in eastern Ethiopia and central Somalia and spreading into Ethiopia’s SNNP region and into Kenya’s northern and coastal counties. A few swarms could spread further in Kenya and reach Tanzania, South Sudan and Uganda this month. Locust invasion poses a big threat to food security in the region. Last year, the region saw billions of the insects destroying crops across the region. The UN agency has urged countries affected to take the necessary efforts to survey, control reduce migration and breeding of the insects.
Third, today, under the Sign category of RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF ISRAEL — According to the Associated Press, Jerusalem municipal authorities said Wednesday they have given preliminary approval to a location for a new U.S. Embassy in the city. In a statement on Twitter, Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan-Nahoum [FLUHR HUH-SAHN NAH-HUM] said the city’s building and planning committee approved the plans. She said that another committee must still grant approval, which she expects to happen in the coming weeks. The location is on the city’s Hebron Road, a central thoroughfare, and not far from the current temporary embassy. The site is near an invisible line that divides west and east Jerusalem, the part of the city captured in the 1967 Mideast war and claimed by the Palestinians for a future capital. It was not immediately clear if it crosses the boundary.
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of PESTILENCES & FATAL EPIDEMIC DISEASES — According to Reuters, Asia’s chicken farmers are confronting the region’s worst bird flu outbreak in years, with the deadly virus affecting farms stretching from Japan to India, roiling some poultry prices and showing no signs of easing. More than 20 million chickens have been destroyed in South Korea and Japan since November. The highly pathogenic H5N8 virus last week reached India, the world’s No. 6 producer, and has already been reported in 10 states. While bird flu is common in Asia at this time of year due to migratory bird patterns, new strains of the virus have evolved to become more lethal in wild birds, making countries on flight pathways particularly vulnerable. The Asian outbreak comes as Europe suffers its worst bird flu outbreak in years, and follows on the heels of COVID-19, which hurt poultry sales early on in some places amid false disease concerns but is now driving up demand due to more home cooking.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Jerusalem Post, former US secretary of state Henry Kissinger said Monday at a Jewish People Policy Institute online conference that the new US administration should not return to the spirit of the Iran deal, which could spark an arms race in the Middle East. He criticized the 2015 Iran deal, which President Donald Trump left in 2018. President-elect Joe Biden seeks to return to it if Iran agrees to comply again with the agreement’s limitations on its nuclear program. Kissinger said, “We should not fool ourselves. I don’t believe that the spirit [of the Iran deal], with a time limit and so many escape clauses, will do anything other than bring nuclear weapons all over the Middle East and therefore create a situation of latent tension that sooner or later will break out.”
The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Ezekiel 37:15-25.
Ezekiel 37:23-25 reads: “Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God. And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
The word “forever” is used five times in verses 25-26, 28. This repetition affirms in the strongest way the eternality of God’s restoration and requires an eschatological projection of the divine program beyond the millennial kingdom. The word “forever” translates the Hebrew term ‘olam, which denotes “an indefinite period of time.” For example, in Exodus 21:6 the term is used of an Israelite slave who has his ear pierced in token of his pledge to serve his master “permanently.” In this case the duration of “permanently” is until his service is terminated by his or his master’s death or by the year of Jubilee. David Friedman examined more than 80 biblical uses of ‘olam and concluded that it expresses the time element of “as long as the present heaven and earth exists”. On this basis the land promise is extended to Israel for “all time,” which in context would mean until the end of the millennial kingdom, at which time the present earth will be destroyed and a new earth created.
If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our Second Coming quote for today is from Charles Spurgeon. He said, “When the world had revolted against its Maker, and the Creator had been defied by His own creatures, a great gulf was opened between God and man. The first coming of Christ was like a bridge which crossed the chasm, and made a way of access from God to man, and then from man to God. Our Lord’s second advent will make that bridge far broader, until heaven shall come down to earth; and, ultimately, earth shall go up to Heaven.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
