Tragedy hit the college football world Saturday morning as a star running back was found dead in what’s being called an “accidental shooting.”

Utah freshman Ty Jordan, the PAC-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, died of a gunshot wound back home in Texas, ABC 4 in Utah reported.

A preliminary investigation by the Denton Police Department indicated that Jordan shot himself, while KUTV’s Josh Edmonds reported that the gun went off accidentally.

Several teammates took to Twitter Saturday to express their sorrow.

“Rest In Peace Ty. Can’t believe your gone. Grateful our lives crossed paths. You will forever be missed,” quarterback Jake Bentley tweeted.
