PODCAST: Essential Dietary Guidelines, Part 2 (Overcoming the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony #53 with Daniel Whyte III)

Welcome to the Overcoming the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony podcast, a companion podcast to the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony message series. This is episode #53. My name is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International. The purpose of this podcast is to share with you, from a biblical perspective, the means by which we can combat and overcome the sin of gluttony and its outcome of obesity.

Our passage from the Word of God today is Matthew 6:25-26 which reads: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Now, let’s look at gluttony and its effects in the news: According to the World Economic Forum, It’s the silent epidemic that claims 4.2 million lives around the world every year – almost three times as many deaths as coronavirus. Diabetes is on the march, with experts predicting that one in 10 of us will be affected by 2045. According to the latest data from the International Diabetes Federation, an estimated 463 million people already live with diabetes and that figure is set to rise to over 700 million by 2045. The condition is already one of the top 10 causes of death globally. According to IDF’s latest Diabetes Atlas, China, the United States and India had the highest rates of diabetes last year, each with over 30 million cases. The condition is rising fastest in sub-Saharan Africa with the number of cases forecast to increase by 143% by 2045. The number of people with diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa is expected to grow by 96% in the same period with an increase of 74% forecast in South East Asia. Diabetes is a serious, long-term condition that occurs when the body cannot produce any or enough insulin or cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. This results in a situation known as hyperglycemia where excessive blood sugar levels can cause a person to slip into a coma.

In this podcast, we are going through the book, The RAVE Diet and Lifestyle: The Natural Foods Diet With Meals that Heal, by Mike Anderson. This section is titled: Essential Dietary Guidelines, Part 2:

Chew your food thoroughly: The idea behind reversing diseases with nutrition is to give your body a concentrated boost of nutrients. Key to this is the ability to fully digest the foods you are eating, in order to get the most nutrients from them. This is where enzymes come into play because enzymes help your body fully digest food. The first step you can take to increase enzyme activity is to chew food very thoroughly because the saliva in your mouth contains enzymes that will break down food and make it more digestible. A good rule of thumb is that your food should be close to liquid before you swallow it, i.e., you should “drink your food.” The next place you can get enzymes is by eating uncooked foods. When food is cooked, digestive enzymes are destroyed and so, too, is the ability to get the most nutrients from foods. Eating raw, uncooked food retains the natural enzymes in foods and thus your ability to fully absorb their nutrients. It’s for this one reason that we say to eat at least half of your food uncooked.

Never cook with salt: Natural plant foods contain all the sodium you’ll ever need. People like to say that salt brings out the flavor in food. Nonsense! All it does is give food a salty taste and camouflage the real taste of food, while promoting blood clotting and high blood pressure. Learn to use spices and herbs, instead of salt, to flavor your food. Or try Mrs. Dash or Salt-Free Spike. A few weeks after you stop using salt, you’ll find you won’t miss it at all.

Take a Multivitamin or B-12 Supplement: This is part of the standard RAVE Diet, as well. Some people think that having to take a supplement on what is supposedly an “all-natural” diet means it is deficient in some respect, but the opposite is actually the truth. B-12 is a vitamin that is synthesized by bacteria that live in the soil. It does not come from animals. Herbivorous animals happen to have B-12 because they consume soil when they eat plants, thereby storing B-12 in their flesh. Getting enough B-12 was never a problem for our ancestors because they came into contact with the soil constantly. It is only because our environment is so sanitary and our contact with the earth so infrequent that we require this supplement.

Get Adequate Amounts of Vitamin D: If there is a single micronutrient that practically all Americans are deficient in it is vitamin D, known as the “sunshine” vitamin. The best way to get this vitamin is through exposure to the sun. If you are not able to do this on a regular basis, take a daily vitamin D supplement of 1,000 IU.

Now, in this series, as we focus on overcoming the sin of gluttony, and managing our bodies as God intended, we must not lose sight of the most important part of our existence — our spiritual life. Even those of you who are fit, who eat right, and who exercise regularly must still address the condition of your soul. You may keep your body in perfect condition till the day you die, but you will still die — we all will, and the only thing that will matter is the condition of your soul. Is your soul in shape? Is your soul in right standing with God?

The only way to make sure of that is to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin and the consequences of sin. He alone can save your soul, put you in right standing with God, and ensure that you do not perish in Hell. Now, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
