Welcome to the Whyte House Family Spoken Novels podcast episode #61. Today we are reading chapter 6 of the novel “…And Family Drama Just Won’t Stop II” by Daniel Whyte III with Meriqua Whyte.

Chapter Six

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” (James 1:5)

The closest florist was in the next town about twenty minutes out of his way. He made it in the nick of time. He remembered the red carnation had looked great on her on Valentine’s Day. This time, however, he decided to get her a bouquet of roses and purchased a white vase to place them in. His next stop was at Walmart where he purchased a medium sized teddy bear with a red heart that read “LOVE, HUGS & KISSES.” The bear said “I love you” when its tummy was squeezed. By 6:20 he was on his way to the hospital. It would take him another forty minutes to get there.

Once at the hospital, he quickly made his way to the second floor. Sis. Montague and Leah greeted him.

“That was thoughtful of you,” Sis. Montague said as she took the flowers and placed them on the bedside table. She placed the bear next to Monica.

Jonathan breathed a sigh of relief to know everything would turn out well after they gave him an update on her condition. “If you ladies want to stretch your legs for a few minutes, I’ll be more than happy to sit with her.”

“Thank you, Jonathan. I believe we’ll take you up on your offer,” Sis. Montague said. “Come on, Leah.”

Once out of the room, Leah blurted out, “Mom, what’s up? That’s not like you to do that. Am I overlooking something here?”

“You sure are. Open your eyes, girl. Didn’t you see those roses? Expensive. Anyway, he and Monica have a relationship that’s blossoming. You didn’t read the writing on the bear—‘LOVE, HUGS & KISSES’.”

Leah grinned.

“Let’s go up to see Sis. Richardson and give those two some time alone. Your Dad’s taking longer to get back,” Sis. Montague said.

. . . . . . . . . . . .

Back in Monica’s room, Jonathan stood next to the bed. He placed the bear next to Monica’s heart and squeezed its tummy. The “I Love You” expressed what he felt in his heart for her. He had been feeling this for a while, but did not want to move too fast.

“Monica, this is Jonathan. I don’t know if you can hear me or not, but I just wanted to let you know all is going to be well.” He felt funny carrying on a one-sided conversation. “You know, I really appreciate the times we’ve spent together…”

He soon became quiet. Walking over to the window, he looked out into the night sky. Lord, please make her well. I can envision us having a future together.

. . . . . . . . . . . .

Sis. Montague and Leah met Bro. Montague exiting the elevator as they were about to enter it. He told them to forgo visiting Sis. Richardson until the next day. “Besides,” Bro. Montague said to them, “Pastor needs some extra time with her. How’s Monica?”

“Jonathan’s with her. He offered to sit with her so we could stretch our legs.”

Bro. Montague grinned. “Let’s eat right here in the waiting room. I’ll give him some time…then I’m going to move in on him. In the meantime, Leah, tell me about you and Xavier.”

Jonathan was back at the hospital the next evening with another set of flowers. He and the Montagues met with Pastor Richardson in Sis. Richardson’s room where they had a very powerful prayer meeting seeing it was Wednesday night. Bro. Reynolds held down the fort at the church. Sis. Gene Willis relieved Pastor Richardson after services so he could get some needed rest. Sis. Richardson’s condition had stabilized, but she was still being closely monitored.

After the prayer meeting, Jonathan excused himself. He wanted to stop by and visit with Monica before heading home. Good news greeted him as he entered the door. Monica was showing signs of consciousness. She squeezed the nurse’s hand on and off throughout the evening. The bandage had been removed from her face. Little cuts that seemed more like scratches were noticeable, but were nothing to be alarmed about.

Jonathan felt a yearning in his heart for Monica. He reached over the bed rails and held her hand. She squeezed his fingers a few times in response to his voice. He kept calling her name softly, squeezing her hand when she did respond. This night he did not hold back as he did the previous night; he bent over and kissed her on the lips. He pulled back rather quickly at her response.

“Mom,” she said as her eyes fluttered open.

“It’s me, Jonathan.”

“Dad?” Monica was still somewhat disoriented.

“No, it’s me, Jonathan.”

Monica managed a half smile.

“How are you feeling?” he asked as he pressed the buzzer for the nurse. Jonathan called the Montagues on Bro. Montague’s cellphone. They wasted no time in coming down from Sis. Richardson’s room. They were all smiles upon entering the room.

“That’s one more victory for us,” Bro. Montague said giving Jonathan a slap on the back as they left for home.

Thank You, God, Jonathan prayed as he drove home. Thank You for answering all our prayers. Tonight, I am one happy man.

Now, dear listener, please know that God—the divine Author of all things—wants to write a great story with your life as well. But first you must give Him the pen by trusting Him with the life He gave you and surrendering your heart to Jesus Christ as Savior. Here is how:

1. Accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20: “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 reads: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

2. Accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

3. Accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

4. Accept the fact that you cannot do anything to save yourself! The Bible states in Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

5. Accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

6. With these facts in mind, please repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!
