Welcome to the Whyte House Family Spoken Novels podcast episode #56. Today we are reading chapter 1 of the novel “…And Family Drama Just Won’t Stop vol. II” by Daniel Whyte III with Meriqua Whyte.

Chapter One

“Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee.” —Psalm 102:1

Two days ago, the Herrons were visiting with the Montagues. Two days ago, Charles Herron trusted Jesus Christ as his Saviour. Two days ago, Bro. Montague advised him to do the right thing. Two days ago, he spoke with his girlfriend, Yvette.

“Hello, Yvette. This is Charles. What’s up?”

“What’s up? I’ve been waiting all evening, so you tell me what’s up.”

“Sorry I didn’t call earlier, but I decided to spend the whole day with my daughter. Remember I told you that,” Charles said. He really did not want to go into any detail—not right now anyway.

“You told me you were going to church with her—that she kept begging you to come with her. It’s been some hours now, so I ask you again: you tell me what’s up?”

Charles and Yvette had been seeing each other since shortly after Charles and his wife separated. In fact, he had moved in with her. She was under the impression that he was a single father.

“Something came up. I’ll tell you about it later, but I won’t be seeing you tonight. I’ll be over here with my daughter…”

“And with your daughter’s mother, I assume.”

“Well, yes…” Charles answered slowly.

“Don’t tell me you’ve gone back to seeing your baby’s mother without letting me know something.” Charles started to reply, but could not get a word in. “No, don’t answer right now. We’ll talk tomorrow. I will see you tomorrow, right?”

“That’s it. I might not see you tomorrow either,” he answered.

“What!”

“I’ll give you a call. I can’t talk right now. Got to go.” Charles hung up the phone. “She’s mad, brother. Just pray for me,” he said to Bro. Montague as he returned to the Montague’s living room. “I sure will. God will work it all out. You just stay true to Him.” Anticipating Yvette calling him throughout the night, Charles turned off his cell phone. He was so excited about his new-found faith, he and his wife were up into the wee hours of the morning reading the Bible, having a good time in the Lord, and enjoying each other’s company. He would tell his wife about Yvette as soon as he got things squared away with her. He avoided Yvette on Monday by refusing to answer her calls. Immediately after work on Tuesday, he stopped by the apartment he used to share with her to retrieve his things. He had received his wife’s message about the accident and was planning on joining her and Tiffany at the hospital. He hurried because he wanted to avoid any confrontation with Yvette. On his way out, as he was locking the door to the apartment, an unexpected voice caught him off guard. “So this is the way we do it—undercover?” “Hey, Yvette. It’s not what you think,” Charles said. “Well, it looks like what I think, and it looks like we’ll be seeing each other after all. It’s still early—:23,” she said glancing at her watch. “You got off early. Care to talk?” Charles sighed as he unlocked the door. “Look, Yvette, I could not talk with you on Sunday; I was calling from a friend’s house. A Brother and Sister Montague invited me and my wife over for dinner after church…” “Wife? Did you just say wife?” “Yes. I just said wife.” “Keep talking because there is a lot I apparently do not know. Since you’re not in such a hurry anymore, you can sit and clear things up. Or, are you still in a hurry?” Yvette sat down, but Charles kept standing.

Yes, I did say wife. We were separated for about a year. The truth is neither of us signed off on the divorce papers.”

“What!”

“Let me finish,” Charles said holding up his hands. “I have kept in touch with her because of our daughter, but I have not had any sexual relations with her over this past year. Giving it to you straight—I got saved, Yvette. I asked Jesus into my heart on Sunday evening at the Montague’s house, and I can’t see you anymore. And I am getting back with my wife and daughter. They both got saved a few months back. And, I am in a hurry. My wife informed me that the Montague’s daughter was in a serious car accident and is in the hospital. I am supposed to meet them there.”

“A likely story,” Yvette said with a laugh. She took two deep breaths and spoke deliberately not looking at him. “So I have been sleeping with a married man for…let me see…about seven months now…You’re a scoundrel, you know that? You’re worse than the worst. No. Do not say a word,” she said standing up. “I guess I never meant anything to you. Isn’t that right?”

“Yvette, I had no idea all this would happen. I…”

“Stop while you still have breath in your lungs.” Yvette was trying hard to remain calm.

“Get out of here before I put a hurting on you. I’m glad you got Jesus in you because after I am finished with you you’re gonna need Him, or should I say, meet Him. Oh, you’re going to be truly sorry for using me like this. You’re going to wish you had never met me, Mr. Charles Herron. Now, get out!”

News got around fast. The church office was inundated with phone call after phone call. The secretary started filling up the prayer wheel with those who wanted to pray on the twenty-four hour prayer chain. The battle was on: it was the saints of New Mt. Zion Missionary Evangelical Church vs the dark forces of the devil.

Stacy and her parents headed to the hospital after finishing their evening meal.

Bro. Reynolds and his family joined the gathering after picking up James from school. Jonathan would join them there on his way home from his new job.

Sis. Herron and Tiffany headed there also after Tiffany would not stop crying until they were heading in that direction. She left a message at Bro. Herron’s workplace for him to join them if he could. Just two days ago they were visiting with the Montagues.

Bro. Harold and Sis. Mills drove on out to the hospital after picking Sis. Bettie up. For the first time, both ladies had nothing to say. All were lost in their own thoughts.

Leah, Monica’s oldest sister, who no longer worked at the hospital, but at a doctor’s office, hurried on over to be with her sister as soon as her mother told her the news. She loved her sister dearly.

A few others joined them that Tuesday evening for two very powerful prayer meetings in the waiting rooms on the second floor and the fourth floor of the hospital. Strangers were in the waiting rooms being blessed as well, as they asked for prayers for their loved ones. This was a critical and trying time for the New Mt. Zion Missionary church family. Pastor Richardson sensed it and said to the members of the church who were present, “Listen up everyone, the Lord has laid on my heart two verses that I want to share with you:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths,” and,

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Now, dear listener, please know that God—the divine Author of all things—wants to write a great story with your life as well. But first you must give Him the pen by trusting Him with the life He gave you and surrendering your heart to Jesus Christ as Savior. Here is how:

1. Accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7:20: “For there is not a just man upon earth that doeth good, and sinneth not.” Romans 3:23 reads: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

2. Accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

3. Accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” The Bible says in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

4. Accept the fact that you cannot do anything to save yourself! The Bible states in Ephesians 2: 8, 9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

5. Accept the fact that God loves you more than you love yourself, and that He wants to save you from hell. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

6. With these facts in mind, please repent of your sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and ask Him to come into your heart and save you this very moment. The Bible states in the book of Romans 10:9, 13: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Dear friend, if you are willing to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, please pray with me this simple prayer: Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
