Death: Are You Ready For It? (GLMX #448)
This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #448 titled, “Death: Are You Ready For It?” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.
The #1 killer throughout the entire world is … DEATH! In fact, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 150,000 people physically die every 24 hours all around the world and that works to be about “104” human beings … people just like you and me, drawing their last breathe EVERY 60 seconds. And most of them didn’t think they were going to die at the moment of their death. It’s a very sobering thought to think about, isn’t it?
Perhaps you know this as well as I do, that death is no respecter of persons … it doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor or whether you’re climbing the corporate ladder in a promising career or if you’ve been unemployed for the last 15 months. The color of your skin—or how you were raised—makes no difference whatsoever; each and every one of us will pass through the door of death. And there is no stopping it! But more importantly, the Bible teaches that physical death is just the beginning. After we die, every person will spend eternity in either a place called Heaven or a place called Hell. The Bible says in Hebrews 9:27 that, “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”. And make no mistake about it, it’s not going to be a trial but a sentencing.
So ask yourself this question: “Would I be good enough to escape hell and enter heaven?” Well, let’s go through God’s moral law, which is His standard of righteousness by which all of humanity will be judged. “Have you ever told a lie?” If you have, you would be called a liar. “Have you ever stolen anything regardless of the value?” If you have, you would be considered a thief. “Have you ever taken God’s name in vain?” That’s called blasphemy, and the Bible says that God will not hold him or her guiltless who takes His name in vain. Lastly, “have you ever looked at another person with lust?” If you have, Jesus would declare that you’ve committed adultery in your heart.
If you were honest in answering these questions in the quietness of your heart, you would be guilty, just like the rest of us. The Bible says that God has seen every sin that you’ve ever committed and that all liars will have their part in the lake of fire. The Bible says that if you die in your sins you will go to an awful place called hell, forever! But it also says that God is rich in mercy and not willing that ANY should perish but that ALL should come to repentance.
At this point you may be thinking, “I would be guilty, is there any hope for me?” The answer is a resounding … YES! There is good news. It’s like this: we broke God’s law, so we’re criminals in the sight of God. But two thousand years ago, a legal transaction took place. Jesus of Nazareth, God’s Son, suffered and died a horrible, brutal, and bloody death on the cross for your sins and my sins. And then He rose again from the grave on the third day, defeating sin and death. Jesus paid your fine in His life’s blood, which means that God can legally dismiss your case and exchange your death sentence. But what you have to do in response to that is repent of your sins. Don’t just say that you’re sorry for them, but realize how sin offends God and turn from it. It’s as though you’re walking in one direction, and you turn and walk in the opposite direction toward God. And put your faith in the Savior. Don’t just believe in Jesus Christ, but put your trust in Him. As you would put your trust in a parachute if you had to jump out of an airplane at 10,000 feet—that kind of trust. And when you do that, the Bible says that God will forgive every sin that you’ve ever committed and grant you the gift of everlasting life! And that’s the Gospel message!
Listen friend, I’m just one beggar telling another beggar where to get food. I care about your soul and where you’re going to spend eternity after you draw your last breath. Please regard the words of Jesus recorded for us in the Gospel of Matthew where He said, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”. Please, seriously consider what’s been shared with you. You may not have tomorrow!!!
If you want to be saved from the wrath to come and from an eternity in Hell, and if you believe that Jesus Christ suffered, bled, and died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer: Holy Father God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I admit that I have sinned against You and that I have broken Your Ten Commandments. I have lied before. I have stolen things before. I have lusted after people and things before. I have dishonored and disobeyed my parents. I have taken Your holy Name in vain. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please have mercy and grace upon my soul and forgive me of all of my sins, my failures, and my faults. As I now believe in Your Holy Son the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered, bled, and died on the cross for my sins, was buried and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me to repent of my sins past. Help me to turn from my old, evil life and follow You in the new life. For it is in Your Name I pray. Amen.
