Baseball’s New Virology Bet: Coronavirus Spreads Within Teams, Not Between Them

As recently as Thursday evening, Major League Baseball medical director Gary Green said that the sport’s protocols to stage a representative season amid a pandemic could work. An explosion of coronavirus cases affecting more than half of the Miami Marlins’ roster had already thrown the schedule into turmoil, but the outbreak had been contained to just one team.

“Twenty-nine out of 30 is a pretty good batting average if you’re playing baseball,” Dr. Green said.
