James Dobson on The Stakes Are High This Election Year
This is a dangerous time for our 244-year-old republic. The choices we make Nov. 3 will send us down one of two dramatically different paths, and the wrong decision will be catastrophic.
Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, said recently that the next election will be themost significant since the Civil War in 1864 — and he’s right.
In 1864, America faced the choice of either reelecting Abraham Lincoln or selecting Maj. Gen. George McClellan. Lincoln pledged to finish the war and preserve the Union. McClellan claimed he would bring peace…but at what cost? He wanted to end the war, but to do it, he was willing to allow the South to establish a government built on slavery.
It was a battle for the very soul of America.

At one point, Lincoln was convinced he would lose. The war was going badly, and his prospects looked bleak.
Thank God, things changed! The war began to turn, and the Democrat party began to battle itself. Ultimately, Lincoln won reelection in a landslide. How differently our country might look today had he failed…
Why am I sharing this with you?
I hope to remind you that elections matter, …and some have jaw-dropping consequences.
With so much at stake, it is imperative that Christians show up on Election Day. You have the opportunity — and the responsibility — to help set the course for our nation in a manner that uplifts our biblically-held convictions.
I won’t tell you who to vote for. You haven’t asked me to…and you can figure it out for yourself. But I will mention some of the more critical issues that are at stake.
