This is Daniel Whyte III with the Second Coming Watch Update. This is update #928. Let’s take a quick look at today’s prophecy-related headlines which point towards the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and the end of the world as we know it.
First, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMOURS OF WARS — According to The Jerusalem Post, Russia completed a massive combat readiness check on Tuesday after the snap drill was called for by President Vladimir Putin. The drills began on July 17 with the surprise decision. Units from the Southern and Western military districts, including marine infantry and Northern and Pacific fleets were all involved. Airborne forces were also deployed. This looks like it was a massive exercise and Russia’s TASS news agency says 56 separate drills took place at 52 training ranges. In total, some 150,000 troops, 400 aircraft and 26,000 vehicles and equipment, as well as 100 warships and support vessels participated. Russia says the surprise inspection came in relation to various terrorist threats and the Kavkav 2020 exercise. It also came amid Azerbaijan-Armenia clashes that began in mid-July.
Second, today, under the Sign category of EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERS PLACES — According to NBC News, A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of the Alaska Peninsula in the southwestern part of the state on Tuesday night triggered tsunami warnings that were later canceled. The quake occurred at 10:13 p.m. around 75 miles south of the community of Chignik, according to the National Tsunami Warning Center. It had a depth of 8 miles. Tsunami warnings were issued for a stretch of Alaska from around 40 miles southwest of Homer to Unimak Pass, 80 miles northeast of Unalaska, according to the warning center. Parts of the Aleutian Islands were also under a tsunami warning.
Third, today, under the Sign category of THE GOSPEL BEING PREACHED IN ALL THE WORLD — According to CBN News, Iran is facing a wave of internal turmoil and covert attacks that are undermining the radical regime’s nefarious plans. Even as the violence escalates, hope is rising among Iranian citizens who are finding salvation in Jesus Christ. “We are calling this a pandemic of hope,” said Mike Ansari, who runs Mohabat TV, one of the most popular Christian satellite channels in Iran. Ansari told CBN News that Mohabat TV is recording 10 times more online salvations than this time last year. “We are registering around 3,000 personal decisions by Iranian Muslims to leave Islam for Christianity during this revival,” Ansari said. “People in Iran are just not happy the way their economy is going, the way the government is robbing them of their national resources and exporting Shia Islam to the neighboring countries, so they just don’t trust their government.”
Fourth, today, under the Sign category of TURMOIL IN THE MIDDLE EAST — According to Ynet News, Israel has uncovered an Iranian-backed terror cell operating under the guise of a humanitarian aid agency in the Palestinian Authority-run West Bank, officials from the Shin Bet security service said Tuesday. The officials said the discovery of the cell by the Shin Bet and IDF prevented terror attacks planned for the West Bank. A 23-year-old Palestinian detainee from the Jenin area, who was a known operative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, told Israeli interrogators that the attacks planned by the cell included the abduction of an IDF soldier who would be used to negotiate the release of Palestinians jailed in Israel. The detainee, who was arrested in April, said that he had been purchasing weapons and recruiting people in advance of terror attacks. He said two terror squads, one in the Ramallah area and the other in the northern West Bank, were preparing to act. Another Palestinian detainee said the terror cell was working with elements in Iran, Lebanon and Syria. In total, 10 people were detained by Israel in connection with the terror cell.
Fifth, today, under the Sign category of FAMINES — According to The Watchers, After ravaging countries in Africa, the Middle East, and India, swarms of locusts have now made their way to Europe as the Italian region of Sardinia recently saw its worst attack in 70 years. Around 74,000 acres of crops have been affected in Nuoro City alone. A Sardinian farmer said, “When the locusts arrived in mid-May, my cabbages were small, it wasn’t harvesting time yet, they were all still in the field. Then the swarm came through, started to devour all the leaves, leaving only the stem”. According to World Bank, the Italian region is now facing its worst locust invasion in 70 years. In an update by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization on July 21, it warned that the risk of swarm migration from the Horn of Africa prevails. Experts are calling for international joint effort, fearing locust plagues could trigger food shortages across the world.
The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Ezekiel 35. Ezekiel 35:3-4 reads: “And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate. I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.”
Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from Exploring Bible Prophecy from Genesis to Revelation, by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.
Mount Seir, the subject of the prophet’s pronouncement of judgment in Ezekiel 35, is in the region inhabited by the Edomites, who are the descendants of Esau, who lost his birthright to his brother Jacob. As a result, Esau’s descendans were given a less fertile land (the wadi Arabah south of the Dead Sea) than the descendants of Jacob received, and Edom maintained a vendetta against Israel because of this ancient dispossession. In Psalm 83:3-6, Edom is mentioned first in the list of nations who formed a conspiracy to wipe out Israel. Edom’s judgment is repeated in a number of prophetic texts, and Ezekiel 35:6 describes this judgment with a word play illustrating retributive judgment (judgment in kind). This is seen in the use of the term blood (Hebrew ‘adom), which sounds like Edom (“red one”) and underscores that as Edom has shed blood, so it will be given over to bloodshed.
The Edomites were violently driven from their territory by the Nabataeans and disappeared from history with the Roman conquest of Idumea. This brought a partial fulfillment of the judgment promised in Ezekiel 35:3-4. However, the area later became reinhabited by Bedouin tribes (perhaps descendants of the Edomites) and today is part of the Bedouin Hashemite dynastic territory known as Jordan. Indeed, Edom had boasted, “We have been beaten down, but we will return and build up the ruins”. The placement of the message in Ezekiel 35 within the eschatological division of the book of Ezekiel and the mention in verse 14 of the universal recognition of Edom’s destruction, along with statements in other oracles that make the time of Edom’s ultimate desolation “the day of the Lord” and similar to the “overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah”, indicates a yet future and final judgment. The Edomite territory of Bozrah is predicted as the place to which the Messiah will come during the Tribulation and the site of divine judgment in the campaigns of Armageddon.
If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.
Our Second Coming quote for today is from Jonathan Edwards. He said, “This world is a dark place without Christ, and therefore is dark till he comes, and until his kingdom of glory is set up.”
If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
