Welcome to The Evidence for the Truth of Christianity in Light of World Religions podcast. This is episode #19
I am your host, Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International.
Today’s passage of Scripture is Matthew 24:14 which reads: “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
Today’s quote is from Dave Hunt. He said: “We desperately need to understand something of the magnitude of sin, of evil, and of gross wickedness in this world if we are to appreciate our redemption. God’s love, grace, and mercy shine all the brighter against the awful reality of evil. Indeed, the very existence of evil is a powerful proof of God’s existence and holiness.”
Our topic for today is titled “Creation Apologetics, Part 1” from “The Encyclopedia of Apologetics”
Much of the creation versus evolution debate is based not on science, but philosophical naturalism, which is a worldview that has become associated with science. It dogmatically claims that nature is a closed system of naturalistic causes and effects that cannot be influenced by anything from outside of nature. It follows that nature had to do the creating with no intervention from God. This philosophy does not deny the existence of God, but it does insist that God could not in any way influence natural events such as cosmic, chemical, or biological evolution.
Dr. Scott C. Todd, a professor at Kansas State University, accurately sums up naturalism: “Even if all the data point to an intelligent designer, such a hypothesis is excluded from science because it is not naturalistic”. Before the scientific data is even taken into account, philosophical naturalists have already decided that God cannot be involved in creation; this is philosophical naturalism, not science.
Students in science classrooms all over the world are being indoctrinated in philosophical naturalism camouflaged as scientific knowledge. Microbiologist Jonathan Wells states, “Darwinism is merely materialistic [naturalism] philosophy masquerading as science, and people are recognizing it for what it is”.
Lord willing, we will continue this topic in our next podcast.
Today, dear friend, we will continue reading “Book 1, Chapter 2” of “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis:
There are two reasons for saying it belongs to the same class as mathematics. The first is, as I said in the first chapter, that though there are differences between the moral ideas of one time or country and those of another, the differences are not really very great—not nearly so great as most people imagine—and you can recognise the same law running through them all: whereas mere conventions, like the rule of the road or the kind of clothes people wear, may differ to any extent. The other reason is this.
When you think about these differences between the morality of one people and another, do you think that the morality of one people is ever better or worse than that of another? Have any of the changes been improvements? If not, then of course there could never be any moral progress. Progress means not just changing, but changing for the better. If no set of moral ideas were truer or better than any other, there would be no sense in preferring civilised morality to savage morality, or Christian morality to Nazi morality. In fact, of course, we all do believe that some moralities are better than others. We do believe that some of the people who tried to change the moral ideas of their own age were what we would call Reformers or Pioneers—people who understood morality better than their neighbours did. Very well then.
The moment you say that one set of moral ideas can be better than another, you are, in fact, measuring them both by a standard, saying that one of them conforms to that standard more nearly than the other. But the standard that measures two things is something different from either. You are, in fact, comparing them both with some Real Morality, admitting that there is such a thing as a real Right, independent of what people think, and that some people’s ideas get nearer to that real Right than others. Or put it this way. If your moral ideas can be truer, and those of the Nazis less true, there must be something—some Real Morality—for them to be true about.
Lord willing, we will continue reading “Book 1, Chapter 2” of “Mere Christianity” in our next podcast.
Let’s Pray —
Before we close, dear friend, if you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, and you want to get to know Him today here’s how.
First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”
Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.
Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Pray and ask Him to come into your heart and He will.
May God bless you and keep you until we meet again.
