Wife of Arizona Diamondbacks Outfielder Starling Marte Dies of Heart Attack

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Starling Marte delivered stunning news Monday of the death of his wife, Noelia Brazoban, as the result of a heart attack.

“Today I go through the great pain of making public the unfortunate death of my wife Noelia, due to a heart attack. It is a moment of indescribable pain. On behalf of my family, I am grateful for the expressions of esteem and solidarity in this difficult time,” Marte wrote on Instagram.

MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports that Marte’s wife was in the hospital awaiting surgery for a broken ankle when she died earlier in the day.

Marte, 31, spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Pittsburgh Pirates — winning two Gold Gloves and making the NL All-Star team in 2016.

He was traded January 27 to the Diamondbacks for minor leaguers Brennan Malone and Liover Peguero.
