Oprah Says she Has Canceled All Plans Through the End of 2020 – and Says her Dog Sadie is Currently Quarantined in her Guesthouse Over Fears the Spaniel May Have Coronavirus

Safety: Oprah said the vet removed her mask, so she is being cautious by isolating her dog

States’ stay-at-home orders may ease up in the coming months, but Oprah Winfrey is playing it safe.

Speaking on Oprah magazine‘s Instagram Live on Sunday, the 66-year-old media mogul said that she has canceled all of her plans through the end of 2020.

‘I have canceled everything on my calendar outside my gates through the rest of the year,’ she said. ‘I just don’t think it’s gonna be safe to be in large group settings until this virus is over, in every form.’

These cancellations include personal plans as well as industry events, like O Magazine’s 20th anniversary party.

Since the country — and the world — don’t yet know when it will no longer be risky to meet in big groups, she’s prioritizing her health.

‘I also had pneumonia [last year]… and am just now getting through all the bronchial stuff. So I will not be leaving these gates this summer. I might poke my nose out in the fall…but I’m gonna wait and see,’ she told Gayle King during the Instagram show, The OG Chronicles.

She certainly has plenty of space to spread out while she’s holed up at home. The star is quarantining at one of her Santa Barbara, California-area homes, thought to be the 23,000-square-foot estate that she purchased for $52 million.

Early in quarantine, she admitted that her partner of 24 years, Stedman Graham, had been quarantining alone in the guesthouse because he was still traveling by plane through the end of March.

Now, Stedman is out and back in the main house with Oprah — but their dog Sadie is quarantining in the guesthouse.

‘She’s in the guesthouse for 14 days, because she had an eye infection and went to the vet,’ Oprah explained.

Oprah said that she’d watch the vet treat her dog on a video call, and during the treatment the vet removed her mask.

There is no evidence that the dogs can contract coronavirus, or that it could spread from animals to humans. However, the disease is still new and being studied, and several lions and tigers at the Bronx Zoo have tested positive for it.

Oprah appears to be practicing an abundance of caution.

‘I heard about a pug in New York!’ she said when Gayle noted that dogs don’t seem to get the virus. ‘We don’t know that! And I heard about two cats!’

The two women also chatted about their dream quarantine partners, with Gayle picking ‘charming’ Columbian singer Maluma and Oprah choosing Bradley Cooper.

‘Bradley and I are good friends and we have really good conversations over text, and we have good conversations over the phone when we’re together, so I’d pick Bradley Cooper,’ she said.

‘For me, Bradley is not a boy-girl thing, although he’s cute…no disrespect to Stedman! He’s just so fantastic to talk to.’

Finally Oprah shared how the virus has made her think more about the sort of ‘essential’ workers who are often overlooked.

‘I have always been the kind of person that when I’m staying in hotels, I always leave tips to the maids… I’ve always had regard for the people who make my life easier and more comfortable,’ she said.

‘I’ve never not seen other people, but I think now more than ever I will not look at people who do the so-called “menial” jobs the same again… or the so-called “grunt work.”‘

In late March, Oprah admitted that she was a bit late coming around to taking COVID-19 seriously.

Stedman, too, took a bit too long to adhere to social distancing, so when he flew in from a trip that month — so Oprah made him self-isolate for two weeks.

‘”I don’t see what everybody’s getting so upset about!” That’s what Stedman was saying… and that’s why Stedman’s at the guesthouse!’ Oprah said.

‘Stedman did not arrive from Chicago until Thursday. He had been speaking in St. Louis… he’d been on planes, so Stedman is like, “What’s the procedure for coming home?”

‘The procedure is…you ain’t coming and sleeping in my bed!’ Oprah told him.

‘And literally, he goes, “I’m not?” And I go, “Have you not been paying attention to the news? Social distancing does not mean you go and sleep in the same bed with the person! When you just got off American Airlines!”‘

Oprah was especially anxious that she be protected from the virus, as she’s already had pneumonia this year, having contracted the illness at the end of 2019. However, in an Instagram Stories video about Stedman’s quarantine, she confessed that she only recently finished her antibiotics.

Luckily, Stedman was happy to protect her too.

‘My friends say “Oh, isn’t Stedman upset?” He’s really not. He’s happy to keep me safe,’ she said.

He was also well taken care of, getting breakfast and dinner delivered to the guesthouse and having ‘love chats’ with Oprah outside the window.

Though she didn’t confirm which of her three Montecito-area homes she is staying in, it’s been reported that her home of choice is a $52 million estate that covers about 23,000 square feet.

It was first built in 1912, with the mansion completed in 1958. It has 14 bathrooms, 6 bedrooms, 10 fireplaces, and views of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Naturally, there’s plenty of space to stretch out, and Oprah admitted that she’s not getting stir crazy just yet — and doesn’t expect to.

‘I’m never bored, because I always have myself. I never feel alone, have never felt alone, because I just love being with myself,’ she said. ‘So this is more time to be with myself without the guilt. Usually it’s like, you’re with yourself but everybody wants to be someplace else. But there’s nowhere to be!’

Oprah also told viewers that they ‘will come out stronger if you choose to come out stronger and ‘actually get the lessons from it’.

‘If you think it’s just about a virus…it’s not. It’s about the forces of life trying to tell us about ourselves. Whatever it is you’re feeling, it’s because you’re supposed to be feeling it,’ she said.

‘Whatever this is putting you through, you needed this moment, and it was the only moment that could bring us to this realization. I’m looking at it from the bigger picture.’
