Welcome to the Overcoming the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony podcast, a companion podcast to the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony message series. This is episode #42. My name is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International. The purpose of this podcast is to share with you, from a biblical perspective, the means by which we can combat and overcome the sin of gluttony and its outcome of obesity.

Our passage from the Word of God today is 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 which reads: “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Now, let’s look at gluttony and its effects in the news: According to SHAPE Magazine, As COVID-19 cases grow in the U.S., it’s normal to be curious about any preexisting health conditions associated with the more serious cases of the virus. After all, many of these risk factors are extremely common: asthma, diabetes, certain heart conditions. Severe obesity—defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as having a body mass index of 40 or higher—is also considered to increase the risk for serious COVID-19-related illness. But the link between obesity and severe illness from COVID-19 is more complicated than it might seem. More than 42 percent of American adults are considered obese by BMI standards (a BMI of 30 or greater), and roughly 9 percent of adults are considered severely obese, according to the CDC. Considering this represents a significant portion of the population, researchers are digging deeper into obesity’s role as a risk factor for severe COVID-19 complications. One preprint study analyzed more than 4,000 patients hospitalized with coronavirus and found that roughly 40 percent of them were considered obese. By comparison, about 45 percent of this sample of hospitalized patients had cardiovascular disease, and 32 percent had diabetes, according to the results.

In this podcast, we are going through the book, The RAVE Diet and Lifestyle: The Natural Foods Diet With Meals that Heal, by Mike Anderson. This section is titled: No Animal Foods, Part 5:

A survey of over 23,000 postmenopausal women showed that fish consumption was positively associated with higher rates of breast cancer. A number of other studies throughout the years have also shown that eating fish increases the risk of cancer, as well as the risk of the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. In addition to the high fat levels of fish, fish oils also suppress the immune system.

But even if there were “clean” fish available – and there are not – fish would still not be heart or cancer healthy due to the high levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, protein and the lack of fiber, complex carbohydrates and other vitamins.

When you look closely into the health claims of fish, they are in fact, very fishy. The original source of Omega-3 fats is plants and only plants can make Omega-3 fats. Why not get them from an uncontaminated source that is good for your health and perfectly balanced in terms of nutrients?

The one sure way we know that animal foods harm us is that our bodies start clearing out our arteries the minute we stop eating them. Dr. Nathan Pritikin, who pioneered heart disease reversal with diet, did not experience success in reversing his heart disease until he completely eliminated animal products from his diet.

You do not need animal foods or “complete proteins” and you are much better off in all ways when you avoid them. You will also get more than enough protein on this diet. If you are concerned about protein issues, see Notes – Protein for more on this.

The protein requirement for normal adults is only two and a half percent of total calories. Mother’s milk is five percent protein and that is at a time when the body is growing at its highest rate. More than five percent protein is not only unnecessary, but also potentially dangerous. Just one reason “high protein” diets should be avoided like the plague.

Bottom line: Animal foods cause disease. Not a single human being has ever failed to improve his or her health when he or she stopped eating animal foods. The evidence is simple, and simply overwhelming.

Now, in this series, as we focus on overcoming the sin of gluttony, and managing our bodies as God intended, we must not lose sight of the most important part of our existence — our spiritual life. Even those of you who are fit, who eat right, and who exercise regularly must still address the condition of your soul. You may keep your body in perfect condition till the day you die, but you will still die — we all will, and the only thing that will matter is the condition of your soul. Is your soul in shape? Is your soul in right standing with God?

The only way to make sure of that is to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin and the consequences of sin. He alone can save your soul, put you in right standing with God, and ensure that you do not perish in Hell. Now, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
