Hood County Restaurants to Close Except for Drive-Thru, Take-Out, and Delivery

County Judge Ron Massingill said during a specially-called meeting of the Commissioners Court Thursday afternoon that Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order to close all restaurants and bars except for drive-through, pickup or delivery options supersedes his own county-wide disaster declaration that would have permitted them to stay open but with limitations.

Abbott’s orders will take effect at 11:59 p.m. Friday and will end at 11:59 p.m. on April 3, although the moratorium caused by the coronavirus pandemic could be extended. Massingill, other local officials and HCN publisher Jerry Tidwell are urging the community to pull together in support of local restaurants, some of which may not survive the two-week dine-in closure. The Granbury chamber has launched a special Facebook page, Hood County Takeout & Delivery Options, to help promote local eateries that offer those services.
