Dr. Bobby Mills: Not Trump, but America on Trial

In 2020, when the U. S. Senate convenes the impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump, America’s Constitutional system of governance (checks and balances) will be on trial. More importantly, the spiritual-moral conscience of Americans will be on trial as well as the soul of American society. Thus, only what individuals do for God (truth) counts. Christian Right Evangelicals, GOP Officials, and Trump Loyalists “straighten-up and fly right”, before it is too late. For, without a doubt, Donald J. Trump told the world in his Presidential announcement speech who he was, and what he represented: power, money and sex (PMS). Former Governor Jeb Bush warned America that Trump represented leadership chaos. America, what are we going to do, now? “If not politically supporting President Trump is wrong, then (for heaven’s sake) I don’t want to be right”. Of course, the same political sentiments can be said in regards to Senator McConnell, the self-identified “Grim Reaper”. America, always remember this spiritual truism: “Make your ear attentive to wisdom; incline your heart to understanding.” (Proverbs 2:2). No doubt about it, Americans should be demanding a fair, just, honest and speedy trial because justice is a spiritual-moral concept. However, we all know that, “Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand all things.” (Proverbs 28:5). For, after all, justice and righteousness are the spiritual-moral principles that undergird a healthy democratic society, and why the Prophet Amos could boldly declare: “Let judgment (justice) run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.” (Amos 5:24). Question: do Republican Senators want justice or do they desire national/international corruption? Only time will tell, the more profound question is: what will history record regarding their actions?

Another pertinent question is: why does one-third of America’s population have such undying loyalty to an unrighteous, ungodly, malnutrition of the brain, dictatorial-minded-leadership mentality perpetrated under the superficial guise of conservatism? It’s about racism, not conservatism. Lest we forget, Archaeologists discovered the oldest skeleton remains of a human being in Africa (Lucy) chronicling that human life began in Africa. God has declared: “and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed.” (Acts 17:26). America is a multi-cultural society. It will always be a multicultural nation unless Americans are willing to internally destroy themselves (Civil War). In 1492, when Christopher Columbus landed at Plymouth Rock individuals of color inhabited the land. America was not discovered. America was inhabited (occupied) and conquered with guns (militarism) through the tactical use of genocide against an indigenous native people. Lest we forget, the infrastructure of the country was developed through forced African slave labor. When slavery was abolished in the year 1863, the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 both enacted into law both laws changed/altered the social dynamics of American society forever. The Big Game is over, so get over it and deal with the consequences. Stacking the federal court system and manipulating the Supreme Court with so-called-conservative judges will not make America a white only country. Even building a wall along the border of Mexico cannot “Make America White”. In the twenty first century, racial superior/white privilege can no longer be established, not even with guns for obvious reasons: too many guns in the hands of too many people. Initiating a Civil War for “EGO” (Edge God Out) for white privilege (white supremacy) is not an answer to spiritual-moral confusion, because there is a universal dimension in humanity that we all understand: “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27). Physical death is the “Great Equalizer”. Christian Right Evangelicals, GOP Officials, and Trump Loyalists just in case you have conveniently developed amnesia (as human beings, as sometimes we do), try to remember this: when the Grim Reaper (death) calls, you must answer; and there will be no place of refuge to run to, and no place to hide. The death-call is absolute and no respecter of statuses. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is “Moscow Mitch” in conjunction with his mentor/partner POTUS #45 in crime. Now, that America’s Constitutional Democratic System is on trial: “where do we go from here: national unity or internal chaos?” For obvious political reasons, Republican Senators, just like President Trump, seemingly desire chaos rather than unity of national purpose. Americans can only prayerfully hope that most Republican Senators have not become so irrationally ignorant of the Will of God that we love one another that they are willing to destroy America’s democratic system of governance for the love of power, privilege, and money. For example, take the likes of Senator Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and Senator Mitt Romney of (Utah). Will the real Lindsey Graham please stand up? From week to week it is difficult to tell which version is on display. How ungodly stupid does he think most Americans have become? In the case of Mitt Romney, we can only prayerfully hope that President Trump was absolutely incorrect when he stated that: “Mitt Romney wanted to be Secretary of State so badly, that he would drop to his knees: (not in nor for prayer, but for the love of power and fame).” Question: have all Republican Senators dropped to their knees for the love of power, money, and social recognition? “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” (Luke 12:15).

In the upcoming Senate trial of President Trump, can Republican Senators in conjunction with Trump Loyalists and their Christian Right Evangelical Cheerleaders, spiritually understand: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). If the impending Impeachment Trial of President Trump is not properly administered, then both America and the world community will be the losers. Thus, we must never forget the spiritual message enshrined in the Preamble to the U. S. Constitution, because by the Grace of God it could easily be religiously canonized. However, there is a caveat, that is, there is also a conjunction. If the U. S. Senate as led by “The Grim Reaper” does not rise to the spiritual seriousness of the moment, God help us all. We will, in effect, be witnessing the eulogy of The Preamble, The Constitution, and America as we know it. The Trump Impeachment Trial represents a historical moment in time, and Americans must stop talking about it, they must be about it: “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness-That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men,…”. America, let’s pray about it: “God bless America, Land that I love, Stand beside her and guide her Through the night with a light from above. From the mountains to the prairies, To the ocean white foam. God bless America, my home sweet home. God bless America, my home sweet home.” America, pray for righteous judgment, because: “God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.” (Psalm 7:11). America, should give glory to God, not an ungodly President. Selah!
