11-time Emmy Award-winning News Anchor Denise D’Ascenzo Dead at 61

Emmy award-winning news anchor Denise D’Ascenzo died suddenly Saturday at her Connecticut home, her employer said.

D’Ascenzo, 61, was a journalist for television outlet WFSB-TV, which she joined in 1986 and “through the years has been a steady and reassuring presence on the anchor desk,” according to the station.

Her cause of death was not disclosed in the station’s statement.

“It was sudden and unexpected,” the statement said. “The grief we are all feeling is immeasurable. We are devastated for her husband and daughter, who were her whole life.”
