PODCAST: The Scripture & The Sense Podcast #331: Hosea 11:3-4 (with Daniel Whyte)

This is Daniel Whyte III with The Scripture & The Sense Podcast #331, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Hosea 11:3-4.

I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.

I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.

________

That was Hosea 11:3-4. Now here is the sense of it.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

The Lord’s goodness to Israel is further illustrated. Like a father patiently teaching a young child to walk, the Lord had established and sustained Israel. He also restored (healed) the nation’s strength after times of judgment, though she failed to acknowledge His intervention. In Hosea 11:4 Israel is compared to a work animal. The Lord is likened to a master who gently (in kindness and love) leads his animal and removes (or perhaps repositions) its yoke so that it might eat with greater ease the food he kindly provides. The Lord treated Israel with compassion and love.
