A teenage boy was found shot to death Saturday morning outside an elementary school in Singing Hills, Dallas police said.
Officers were called to Robert L. Thornton Elementary School in the 6000 block of Old Ox Road around 7 a.m., after someone noticed the teen’s body. Police found the victim in the blacktop area of the school, officials said.
KXAS-TV (Channel 5) identified him as 15-year-old Mikel Phillips.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear Saturday afternoon, but Shamekia White, the boy’s mother, said her son had been threatened recently.
“I have to bury my son in the next couple of days. I have to find a funeral home to come pick my son’s body up. The morgue won’t even let me see my son because of what they did to him,” White told NBC5. “But what I can tell you, there were over 20 bullets out there on those school grounds. So they shot my son up. He was 15. That’s overkill.”
Residents in the area reported hearing gunfire around 8 p.m. Friday, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Nathan Heathcote at 214-671-4310.
