An Georgia college student who went missing last month was found dead on Friday and authorities have identified two suspects.
The body of Alexis Crawford, a 21-year-old senior at Clark Atlanta University, was found in a park in Dekalb County off of Columbia Drive in Atlanta.
Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields said in a press conference that authorities were led to the body by Crawford’s friend and roommate, Jordyn Jones.
This has prompted investigators to identity Jones, 21, as a possible suspect in the death of Crawford.
Jones initially told officers she had last seen Crawford on October 30 at her off-campus apartment located 1.3 miles from campus.
Investigators have also named Jones’ boyfriend, 21-year-old Barron Brantley, a suspect in the case.
Shields said that prior to Crawford’s disappearance, Crawford filed a police report against Brantley for unwanted advances.
‘While a motive has not been clearly established, the department did take a police report from Alexis Crawford on October 27. In this report, Alexis described unwanted kissing and touching from Barron Brantley,’ Shields said.
‘The case has come to one of the saddest conclusions possible and has been absolutely heartbreaking.’
Police are securing arrest warrants for both suspects.
Shields ended the press conference by thanking authority members who worked on the case and giving condolences to Crawford’s family.
She said: ‘Thank you for treating Alexis as if she was one of our own family members. And to Alexis’s family, our hearts go out to you. I am so truly sorry that we could not provide you with a better ending.’
Crawford’s family reported the student missing on November 1, after she missed two days of work and classes starting October 30.
On the day she disappeared, Crawford was reportedly active on her social media accounts and sent money to her younger sister via Cash App.
Crawford also went to a nearby liquor store with Jones around 11.30pm before the two returned to their apartment at Heritage Station on McDaniel Street.
Jones said she last saw Crawford at 12.30pm that night before she went to bed.
Crawford allegedly told friends she wasn’t ‘comfortable sleeping’ in her bedroom due to the incident with Brantley earlier that month.
Jones reportedly said she and Crawford were ‘not on speaking terms’ at the time of the disappearance.
Her mother, Tammy Crawford, said that her daughter, ‘seemed to be in good spirits and was laughing,’ when they last spoke.
Her family said it is rare for Crawford to go more than a day without speaking to her parents or her siblings.
Bobby Wright, Crawford’s father said: ‘I just want you to come home safe – I hope God is walking with you and please prevent any evil that comes her way – and we’re here for you.’
