PODCAST: 21 Days To a New You (Overcoming the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony #33 with Daniel Whyte III)

Overcoming the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony #33

Welcome to the Overcoming the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony podcast, a companion podcast to the Acceptable Christian Sin of Gluttony message series. My name is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International. The purpose of this podcast is to share with you, from a biblical perspective, the means by which we can combat and overcome the sin of gluttony and its outcome of obesity.

Our passage from the Word of God today is 1 Corinthians 6:12 which reads: “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.”

Now, let’s look at gluttony and its effects in the news: According to BBC News, Fatty tissue has been found in the lungs of overweight and obese people for the first time. Australian researchers analysed lung samples from 52 people and found the amount of fat increased in line with body mass index. They said their findings could explain why being overweight or obese increased asthma risk. Lung experts said it would be interesting to see if the effect could be reversed by weight loss. In the study, published in the European Respiratory Journal, scientists looked at post-mortem samples of lung donated for research. Fifteen had had no reported asthma, 21 had asthma but died of other causes and 16 died of the condition. The scientists used dyes to carry out detailed analyses of almost 1,400 airways from the lung samples under the microscope. The researchers found adipose [AD-EH-PUS] (fatty) tissue in the walls of airways, with more present in people with a higher body mass index, and they say the increase in fat appears to alter the normal structure of the airways and cause inflammation in the lungs – which could explain the increased risk of asthma in overweight or obese people.

In this podcast, we are going through the book, The RAVE Diet and Lifestyle: The Natural Foods Diet With Meals that Heal, by Mike Anderson. This section is titled: 21 Days To a New You!:

The Best Health Insurance You Can’t Buy: “It turned out to be a lot easier than I had expected. In fact, it felt rather natural. I discovered a new world of foods that were very tasty, diverse, and satisfying. I never felt deprived and, unlike my experiences with other “diets” I had been on, I never felt hungry. Gradually my tastes and orientation to food changed and my desire for the higher-fat foods I had been used to went away.” – Raymond Kurzweil [KURTZ-WILE], The 10% Solution

The RAVE Diet is not about restricting food portions, but changing food choices and breaking through the vicious eating cycles that are making people sick and overweight. Many people will look at the RAVE Diet and make a snap judgment that it’s difficult to follow. It only seems that way. Some of our greatest skeptics decided to try it and found the diet not only easy to follow, but satisfying and delicious.

When we say “21 days to a new you!” we’re not talking about losing 21 pounds in 21 days, but changing your tastes for food in just three weeks. That’s how long it takes most people to make a complete switch in their taste buds. The problem is that we’ve lost our taste for natural foods because most of the food we eat today is smothered with salt, fat, sweets and chemicals. As a result, our taste buds have become warped as we crave the “highs” of sugar, fat and salt that have become a standard part of the typical American diet. In other words, our taste buds are really driving our diseases.

By following the RAVE Diet, your taste buds will be “re-trained” and the cravings you have for bad foods will be replaced with a desire to eat good food. This is the essence of the RAVE Diet: simply re-training your taste buds to enjoy the foods nature provided for us throughout the history of humanity. Once your taste buds are re-oriented, weight loss and all the other health benefits of this diet will fall into place automatically as your body begins to heal itself.

Many people made a switch from whole milk to skim milk. Do you remember how terrible skim milk tasted when you first tried it? After you got used to it, and you tried whole milk again, remember how awful it tasted? Too heavy, too greasy and too fatty. You will experience similar changes in taste when switching to the RAVE Diet. The highs of sugar, fat, sweets and chemical additives will be replaced by more subtle tastes, along with the aromatic flavors of herbs, spices and sauces. Food will taste so much cleaner – much like the difference between spring water and a syrupy soda.

Now, in this series, as we focus on overcoming the sin of gluttony, and managing our bodies as God intended, we must not lose sight of the most important part of our existence — our spiritual life. Even those of you who are fit, who eat right, and who exercise regularly must still address the condition of your soul. You may keep your body in perfect condition till the day you die, but you will still die — we all will, and the only thing that will matter is the condition of your soul. Is your soul in shape? Is your soul in right standing with God?

The only way to make sure of that is to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin and the consequences of sin. He alone can save your soul, put you in right standing with God, and ensure that you do not perish in Hell. Now, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Until next time, may God bless you and keep you is my prayer.
