Security footage has captured two thieves stealing a statue of Jesus Christ from a chapel in Auckland.
The thieves broke in to the Carmelite Monastery in Royal Oak in broad daylight on Friday morning and plundered the house of God for a four-foot Most Sacred Heart of Jesus statue.
The monastery has owned the statue since 940AD.

Not satisfied with just the child-height depiction of Christ, the men also made away with a Little Infant of Prague statue.
The CCTV footage shows a man and a woman walking from the doors of the monastery and loading the icons into their car.
The man hides his appearance with a pair of sunglasses while the woman has her hood up.

The images were shared by the chapel who said in a post: ‘Sadly during this time our chapel was empty and we were about to begin our Morning Prayer. The police have been notified.’
Auckland police said they were investigating the crime, according to Newshub.
