Two people died in a crash Thursday morning on a Central Texas highway.

The accident, involving a pickup and an SUV, was reported at around mid-morning Thursday at the intersection of State Highway 31 and Heritage Parkway north of Axtell.

The driver of the SUV and a passenger who was riding in the pickup both died at the scene, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Ryan Howard said.

The driver of the pickup was flown to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center by helicopter.

A preliminary investigation shows that the pickup was southbound on Highway 31 when the driver of the SUV pulled onto the highway from Heritage Parkway, Howard said.

The pickup struck the SUV.

The names of the victims and additional details weren’t immediately available.
