LISTEN: How to Have Hope in the Worst of Times (Gospel Light Minute X #329 with Daniel Whyte III)

This is the “chief of sinners,” Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International, with the Gospel Light Minute X Podcast #329, titled, “How to Have Hope in the Worst of Times.” I’m here to remind you of what the Bible says, that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” like you and me.

Charles Dickens says in his novel, The Tale of Two Cities, “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” We are living in the worst of times.

You were probably told when you were young that if you played fair and worked hard, everything would turn out OK.

How’s that working out for you? Have you discovered yet that life isn’t fair?

Whatever your current circumstances, take a few minutes and use this little message to take an inventory of where your hope lies. Where are you putting your hope? Is it in your career? Your friends? Your investments?

The Bible has a lot to say about hope. It recognizes that humans live in a difficult and often twisted world where people do unimaginably bad things to each other. And as you may have discovered, more often than not, things do not work out very well.

In the midst of this sin-filled world a compassionate God launched a rescue plan. It is found in the Gospel of John in the Holy Bible, and describes the depths of God’s love for you: The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

No thing and no one offers what Jesus offers. By coming to live among us He knows what it is like to face life. He knows what it is like to face death and win.

He offers to connect you to His power: When you live in His power you can face a battering series of circumstances with hope: The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

He offers to give you a future: The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

He offers you peace: Jesus Christ said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

He offers you rest: Jesus Christ said in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

He offers you forgiveness: The Bible says in Ephesians 1:7, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”

God knows your name and He is calling you. Don’t turn away. Seek Him with all your heart. Learn more about the love of God and the gift of His Son, Jesus, by reading the Gospel of John, talking to a Christian, and visiting a local church. You will be warmly welcomed.

If you are willing to trust Jesus Christ with all of your heart so you can go to Heaven, please pray with me what is called the sinner’s prayer:
