BREAKING: 2 Dead, 4 Injured in Shooting at University of North Carolina at Charlotte; Suspect in Custody

At least two people are dead and four injured in a shooting on Tuesday night at a North Carolina university, according to local emergency services.

The University of North Carolina, Charlotte campus was on lockdown following reports of the shooting. The fatalities and injuries were reported by the Mecklenburg Emergency Medical Services Agency.

University officials issued an alert telling students to stay in a safe location. Gun shots were reported near a building on campus, according to an alert.

Authorities swept through buildings on campus. An alert asked students to follow officer commands.

To reunite students with their families, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told people to meet at a shopping center about a mile from campus.

Aerial shots from local television news outlets showed police officers running toward a building, while another view showed students running on a campus sidewalk.

Tuesday marked the last day of classes before final exams begin Thursday, according to the university academic calendar.

A free Waka Flocka Flame concert at the school’s football stadium was scheduled for 6 p.m. local time, shortly after gunshots were reported.
