A doll-size effigy of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was seen chained to a truck’s trailer hitch at a Safeway gas station Tuesday night in San Jose.
The sighting came a day before an avowed Texas racist was to be executed for the 1998 truck-dragging murder of a black man in one of the most gruesome lynching cases in modern U.S. history.
NBC Bay Area reported that Joanna Acevedo took a photo of the small doll and posted it on Twitter. In a follow-up tweet, she wrote, “This is racist no matter the intention (ie. Raiders vs. niners rivalry).”
Kaepernick made national headlines in 2016 when he kneeled during national anthems of NFL games to bring attention to racial and social injustice and protest police brutality.
