Several drivers were shocked to see a horse standing up in the back of a pickup truck and secured only by a rope as its owner drove 55mph down a Texas highway over the weekend.
The photo was shared on Facebook by Kerry Green Costello who says the horse’s hooves were halfway off the truck.
‘Only In Texas. This horse is either very well trained or scared to death,’ Costello wrote in the caption of the photo.

The horse was also wearing a saddle as the truck traveled down Highway 59, past Lufkin, Texas.
The truck was not using hazard lights, nor did it have a tailgate, Costello said.
Costello told KPRC that she thought that if ‘anything spooks this horse, [it’ll be] a danger to this horse, this driver, the other people on the road and me and my husband and our two 5 year olds in our car’.
Another witness captured the incident on video as they passed by the truck.
In the video, the horse appeared calm and seemed to be enjoying the wind.

A second photo of the incident shows the driver being pulled over and stopped by police a short time later.
However, Corrigan police say the man wasn’t doing anything illegal in the transportation of the horse.
The driver reportedly told officers that he was on his way to work at the stockyards when his truck that can pull the trailer wouldn’t start, so he had to go with the alternative.
But according to Costello, whose post now has more than 1,600 shares, the unidentified driver had done this before.
Other photos on her Facebook page show the same truck transporting a smaller horse on the back.
During that incident, the driver was also pulled over by officers. It’s unclear if he was given a citation at the time.
