A Filipino Catholic priest has been charged with raping a teenage girl and recording their sexual encounter that occurred 5 years ago.
Rev. Armand Garcia, 49, turned himself in Monday to authorities and later posted 10 percent of his US$250,000 bail.
Garcia’s lawyer William Brennan confirmed the priest was arraigned on charges of rape, recording of a sex act, and corruption of minor.
According to court filings, the count of rape stems from an alleged incident in August 2014.
Garcia’s accuser, believed to be an altar girl, came forward after he was transferred to a new parish in 2017.
Reports say Garcia served as a regional representative for the National Association of Filipino Priests.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 14.
