A Jacksonville man is charged with killing his father in an altercation Friday at their home in a Southside townhouse complex.
Trenton Nivek Lauwereins, 24, is charged with murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Joseph Michael Lauwereins in the 4100 block of Crownwood Drive in a gated neighborhood off Gate Parkway, said Officer Melissa Bujeda, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
He is accused of shooting his father as the older man stood behind a locked bedroom door during an altercation. Bujeda said Trenton Lauwereins did not call police immediately after the shooting.
When he did call 911, Trenton Lauwereins reported that he had shot his father. He then identified himself to arriving officers as the shooter, according to the Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Before calling police, Trenton Lauwereins called his grandparents who were at the home when Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives arrived, the report stated.
